Multi-Carrier Shipping Software Will Help Improve Business Processes

Several features within CPS shipping software will help improve your business processes.
FORT MYERS, FL — April 3, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software shared information on how a multi-carrier shipping system can improve business processes within companies that ship through small parcel carriers. Harvey Software’s Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software contains several tools that will streamline the shipping process into a smooth workflow. Integration of the shipping software with accounting, OMS, and ERP solutions cuts down on manual data entry. RateBots™ define business rules for shipping and ensure that management decisions are carried out package by package. Reporting features allow managers to reconcile the shipping invoice against what is expected. All of these speed up work in the shipping department and mean that employees can focus on other tasks.

“Shipping is complicated for the carriers, but it does not have to be for the local business owner or warehouse manager. The best multi-carrier shipping software contains tools that will automate many manual functions within the shipping department,” said Cary Cobb, Director of Sales and Marketing at Harvey Software. “Our customers who use order management systems connect to that data through their company’s network – they don’t need to enter shipping data manually. Many are able to scan a pick ticket, instantly call up the customer’s shipping data, and print the label for the best-choice carrier for that package within seconds,” continued Mr. Cobb. “Because our RateBots define carrier selection rules, a shipper can define ‘two day express’ as a shipping method. Any time a customer wants to ship express, they would define that RateBot as the shipping method, and our software chooses the best rate without further user input. Create different RateBots that include different carriers, ground and overnight services; your shipping employees will not have to navigate among the myriad of shipping methods available,” said Mr. Cobb. “From a simple shipping workflow standpoint, CPS handles the computer work on its own, leaving employees more time to pick orders and pack boxes,” explained Mr. Cobb.

“Once daily processing is operating efficiently, a manager can check reports at the end of the day, end of the month, or define a different time period to review. Some reports look at individual package records while others handle broader shipping ranges. Use these to help calculate flat rate shipping costs and to make sure the carriers are billing appropriately,” continued Mr. Cobb. “There are other ways to improve the process within the shipping department. We’d be happy to speak to anyone who has more specific questions for their business’s challenges,” concluded Mr. Cobb.

Tracking Email Increases Transparency for Businesses with a Multi-Carrier Shipping System

SHIP eLERT tracking email helps customers identify both the package location and your company brand
FORT MYERS, FL — March 13, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software released advantages and features of its SHIP eLERT® tracking email system. The SHIP eLERT system provides users of Harvey Software’s Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software a way to send a unified tracking email for FedEx, SpeeDee, UPS, and USPS packages. Because this tracking email is from the CPS customer’s email address instead of a carrier’s, a CPS customer has the opportunity to increase its brand exposure in their own customers’ email Inbox. In this way, CPS shipping software also assists in improving brand identification and customer communication.

“Consumers obviously need to know where their packages are after they purchase. Harvey Software’s SHIP eLERT notification system provides a link to view tracking status of packages shipped through CPS, regardless of which carrier shipped that package. The link goes to our proprietary tracking page which then reads the tracking number and takes the user to a package status web page. SHIP eLERTs are also accessible from most any mobile device with email capability,” said Cary Cobb, Harvey Software’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “In addition to the need for sharing tracking status, there’s a branding opportunity any time you communicate with customers. Our customers email tracking info from their own company email addresses, reminding shoppers where they purchased an item when they are checking on an order’s shipping status. We give our customers control over the subject line as well. If there’s a message they want to get out to their most recent customers, they have some flexibility in doing so as compared to carrier email notifications,” continued Mr. Cobb. “As more and more competition enters the online marketplace, it becomes even more important to promote your company’s brand. Sending email from your own addresses is one piece of an overall customer communication strategy. A tracking email is also a way to reference purchases – consumers may be looking through their email to remember where they bought a particular item, and a tracking email is an obvious marker that is easier to find than purchase confirmations. When that tracking email comes from a company’s own email address, the company increases its brand visibility, ideally leading to more purchases,” concluded Mr. Cobb.

Time-Saving Features Available Inside Multi-Carrier Shipping Software from Harvey Software

Read About Ways That CPS Can Save Time in the Shipping Department
FORT MYERS, FL — February 28, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software released ways for businesses to save time in the shipping department. Harvey Software’s Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software has features that streamline the shipping process so that employees can work on other tasks. The features available within CPS increase efficiency while also reducing shipping costs. Harvey Software encourages shippers to prepare their shipping systems now to immediately realize the benefits and prepare for increased order volume.

“Shipping software can be the smooth last step in a fulfillment cycle, or it can be software that puts up a daily fight when trying to get orders out the door,” said Cary Cobb, Director of Digital Marketing at Harvey Software. “Ideally, shipping software reliably connects to the fulfillment or customer management system. With just a few keystrokes to complete each shipment, businesses are able to eliminate such errors as incorrectly choosing a carrier, shipping to a non-existent address, or choosing an unnecessarily more expensive service that costs a business money,” explained Mr. Cobb. “A new user can learn the basics of shipping with CPS in minutes. Once the weight comes in from the scale and the preferred shipping method is chosen, CPS prints carrier approved labels and is ready for the next shipment. It can be adapted to a variety of serial-based printers and scales, and the connection to an order management system includes the ability to write-back completed shipping information,” continued Mr. Cobb.

“Because CPS can be adapted to such a variety of applications, getting a shipping label is no longer a bottleneck in the fulfillment process. CPS is simple enough to be operated by a single person shipping parcels out of a home-based business. It is also versatile enough to be customized for the needs of a medium sized shipper, and with automation features found only in much more expensive solutions, CPS can operate on large-scale enterprise applications with or without a user present at the computer. With that kind of versatility, CPS shipping software serves a variety of companies’ shipping needs,” said Mr. Cobb. “We focus a lot on how CPS saves money, but the time it saves is just as important, if not more so. Harvey Software encourages businesses to check their shipping software and make sure it is optimized for maximum efficiency,” concluded Mr. Cobb.

Multi-Carrier Shipping System Integrates Third Party Parcel Insurance Options for Shipping Savings

Use Integrated Third Party Insurance Options For Additional Shipping Savings
FORT MYERS, FL — February 22, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software provided detailed information about alternate parcel insurance options integrated into its multi-carrier Computerized Parcel System (CPS™). By integrating these third party insurance options into CPS, shippers can insure packages using one of the alternate insurance companies, providing shippers with package insurance protection when needed, but at a significant savings compared to similar protection when purchased directly from the parcel carriers.

“We’ve seen increased interest in third party parcel insurance recently because shippers continue to look for ways to cut costs without sacrificing service. Most third party insurers charge significantly less for package insurance than the carriers do. By aggregating those savings on a large scale, shippers will realize cost savings without any reduction in service quality,” said Cary Cobb, Harvey Software’s Director of Digital Marketing. “In many multi-carrier shipping systems, a user may need to use a separate web site or program to use these third party insurance services. At Harvey Software, we recognize the need to save time on this process, so we integrated multiple options of third party parcel insurance, including PIP, Shipsurance, and U-PIC, into our main interface. Processing alternate parcel insurance is part of the normal End-of-Day processing in CPS, so shippers have all of the data and reporting needed for each alternate insurance company. Integrated third party insurance processing is another way that CPS makes it easier to ship efficiently and achieves the goal of saving money and time,” concluded Mr. Cobb.

Harvey Software Releases Update for its Multi-Carrier Shipping Software CPS

Update CPS Shipping Software Now to Make Sure You Have Accurate Shipping Rates
FORT MYERS, FL — January 24, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software announced the latest update to its Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software. In this update are the latest rates from the parcel carriers FedEx and the United States Postal Service (USPS). In addition, new rates for the DYMO Endicia Internet postage are also included. These rates took effect on Sunday, January 22nd, as did changes in federal law for how customs documents are prepared for manifested international shipments. CPS customers can see the complete update notes in the Notices and Updates section of their On-Line Support. A new Express Mail Flat Rate Box, offered by both Endicia and the USPS directly, is now available for both domestic and international shipping as well as a Priority Mail Regional Rate “C” box, which enables flat rate shipping up to 25 lbs.

“We encourage our customers to update their CPS shipping software as soon as possible. This ensures that they see accurate rating for FedEx and USPS going forward – UPS rates already took effect on January 2nd, 2012. Also, we encourage our customers to enable the automatic updating of CPS in program setup – updates are only a few times a year and are concentrated during this December/January timeframe. Not only that, but the rate shopping features that form the backbone of CPS are only effective when viewing updated shipping rates,” said Bob Sansone, Director of Sales at Harvey Software. “This update is not large and is quick to install – customers can expect to be shipping again within a couple of minutes. We already released the CPS specific features in the December update, and this update is really just an update of rates for FedEx and USPS. The new services that are available from USPS and Endicia will show up in the rate shopping features just like any other service, and as always, features within the software can be set to choose the best-priced service automatically,” continued Mr. Sansone. “Barring additional changes from the carriers, this update should be the last of the season, and customers can expect these rates to stay the same for the remainder of 2012. Of course, the fuel surcharges from FedEx and UPS are still subject to change monthly as usual, but this change does not require a significant update of our shipping software,” concluded Mr. Sansone.

Multi-Carrier Shipping Software Saves Time in the Shipping Department

Many features available within the CPS computerized Parcel System will save time in the shipping department.
FORT MYERS, FL — January 11, 2012 — Today, Harvey Software released information describing how its Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software will save time in a company’s shipping operations. The CPS multi-carrier shipping system has been refined and developed over more than 25 years to be the streamlined, efficient shipping software that companies demand for their shipping departments. Whether a company is shipping 10 or 10,000 packages a day, CPS shipping software will save time in the shipping department and increase productivity of shipping employees.

“Even just using the manual entry features of CPS, a user can quickly enter the necessary shipping information. Look us up on YouTube and see how fast a user can work with the manual entry function. A basic shipping label can be prepared using only the destination address, weight, and desired carrier service,” said Bob Sansone, Director of Sales at Harvey Software, Inc. “The selection of the best shipping service is the heart of CPS, and users see the rates for multiple carriers simultaneously. Because CPS is certified by the carriers and shows accurate rating, including accessorial charges and fuel surcharges for every package, the customer knows they get accurate rates and can be confident their bills will reflect this,” continued Mr. Sansone. “Our users save even more time when they use optional services available within CPS like the SHIP eLERT tracking email, sent from the user’s email address, notifying customers their packages are on the way and cutting down the calls to customer service asking if a package is on the way. Third party parcel insurance from several vendors is also available within the CPS user interface, eliminating the need to leave CPS to obtain these money saving services. Available address verification ensures the shipment is going to a verified US address,” explained Mr. Sansone.

“Because CPS is an ODBC compliant application it can be linked to order management applications. Not only can shipping information be imported into the shipping software, completed shipping data like the carrier used, shipping cost and tracking number can be written back to the order system. Time is saved on customer service as well as in the shipping department,” said Mr. Sansone. “With CPS selecting the best shipping service automatically for any number of packages, completed shipping data being returned to the host order system, shipping notifications sent for every package, address checking at the shipping station instead of searching elsewhere - no matter what the customer needs, CPS shipping software can save time in almost any shipping warehouse,” concluded Mr. Sansone.
