Multiple Carrier Shipping Software Lets Businesses Leverage Carrier Shipping Guarantees
FORT MYERS, FL — November 29, 2011 — Today, Harvey Software, Inc. described how shippers can take advantage of carrier shipping guarantees to meet shipping delivery time commitments at the lowest cost. The Smart RateBot® feature Harvey Software’s Computerized Parcel System (CPS™) shipping software reduces shipping expenses by helping companies meet guaranteed delivery times using a carrier’s ground service instead of the more expensive air and express services. For example, the major US package carriers promise delivery within two days to many states using standard ground service. A centrally located shipper enjoys guaranteed delivery within two days to half of the continental US. The CPS Smart RateBot enables shippers who use the more economical ground services to meet guaranteed two day delivery service commitments. By offering the same shipping transit times at a lower cost, shippers who take advantage of this feature can immediately increase their profits.
“Many shipping departments just automatically choose two-day air service when the customer needs their package in two days. Depending on where the package is shipped from, the area where ground service delivers within a guaranteed two days covers quite a large part of the U.S.,” said Bob Sansone, Harvey Software’s Director of Sales. “Let’s look at a company shipping out of downtown Chicago. A quick look at their one carrier’s transit map shows that Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, and all of Long Island are within the two day ground delivery area from Chicago. In fact, 19 complete states and parts of several others have guaranteed ground delivery commitments within two days. There is no reason to be shipping two day air to these places when ground service will do the job,” explained Mr. Sansone. “In our CPS shipping software, the shipper simply creates a Smart RateBot for a two day delivery time, and that Smart RateBot chooses the least expensive ground delivery service for any address within that two-day zone. There’s no need for a shipping employee to look at zone maps,” continued Mr. Sansone. “There are instances where shipping ground can cost half that of air or express services, maybe even less. Why not take advantage of services the carriers guarantee? Of course, you always have the option of using their air or express services if necessary. Changing carrier services with CPS is just a click away,” said Mr. Sansone.
“We work with companies with multiple warehouses across the country. When their products are located in strategic locations, they are able to cover most of the country by ground service with just a few strategic warehouse locations. By making that investment and using a multi-carrier shipping system, those companies are optimally positioned for our Internet economy,” explained Mr. Sansone. “And even with one location, shipping via ground to destinations within guaranteed delivery zones is just smart business. Smart RateBots can make this profitability a reality for a shipper of any size,” concluded Mr. Sansone.
